In 1947 scientists developed the Doomsday clock as a metaphor for how close we are to destroying the one planet we have with our powerful bombs. According to the clock, it’s 100 seconds to midnight. The clock hasn’t moved for three years.
It started at seven minutes to midnight. Since then, well, nuclear disaster (not caused by war), climate, politics, economics, geo-political, and now medical. There’s more. In fairness, it started out as a the Atomic Clock but in 1968 it was dubbed the Doomsday Clock. Yes, the 60s was a turbulent time.
Like today. That nuclear plant caught between Russia and Ukraine and their war? Pretty scary.
With seven seconds (in Atomic time) to go, what should we do? It resets in January. That may not be enough time. Tick. Tock.
