Scientists have found that the dwarf reed snake cartwheels away from danger. It just rolls up and rolls on. THAT is a fabulous evolutionary development. Don’t know about you, but cartwheels are not in my wheelhouse these days. What would happen if we could sense danger then, not bolt, but dance away from it? After all, running starts a chase response when the danger is a living thing. But danger isn’t always a living thing. Before giving you and example, let me get the “yeah, buts” out of the way. Hurricanes, tornadoes, fire are dangers that are very real and in the rush to find protection, dancing probably isn’t our best move. Then again, the dwarf reed snake probably doesn’t have a lengthy thought process, it just rolls up and rolls on. But let’s say you’re stepping into a crosswalk, the signal in your favor and a careless driver zooms right in front of you. You can stand there and give them the finger and yell and carry on, potentially escalating the situation or you can dance out of the way and then roll on. Just let it go. I know, easier said that done, but worth a try. If evolution won’t make us resilient, we can make ourselves.
