We adopted a dog, a Labradoodle, the week of Thanksgiving, last year. They said he was 5 years old, but it’s pretty clear that he’s older. He had a pretty upsetting life to the point that we got him, no matter what. He was nervous and afraid. We hired a dog therapist and began a program of socializing him. Because he was nervous and he had cage rage, we worked with a trainer… but whenever he was left by Jim (who picked him up and brought him home) he didn’t want to be touched by anyone. He nipped, so he was “disinvited” to training. In the last few weeks I’ve been thinking about writing a kid’s picture book about Jasper overcoming challenges. To prepare, I ordered some books from online then went to a bookstore and bought some more. I was particularly interested in kid books about dogs and award-winning kid books.
Today, I was reading them in anticipation or writing a draft copy today. One of the books was …the more I love my dog. The cover was largely covered by stickers… I opened it up and started to read the first page…..then the second and….the third…..then this: Dogs are not excited by a large pair of unfamiliar breast….” Um….. kiddie book? Look, I don’t have kids, but if I did, I wouldn’t read this book to them…. Then again, maybe, “dogs won’t help themselves to your cash” is a good life lesson…. Or “Dogs don’t purchase flashy sportscars to prove that they are still young dogs at heart.” Yeah, not so much for kids, but still kinda funny.
