Meet the Peecyclers. Their Idea to Help Farmers Is No. 1.
When I first saw this story, I was tickled. I love peeing outside. At concerts, on long trips, at night when I take the dog for bedtime pee. It has variously annoyed or embarrassed boyfriends over the years.
All this time I’ve been wasting a valuable resource. Turns out that the elements in urine are very good for plants. Using it was can decrease the environmental costs of mining and delivering necessary nutrients.
Those opposing phosphate mining should embrace this approach. Also, the battle in Ukraine has decreased the world’s supply of fertilizer, though we’re all still peeing. And, we’re using drinking water to flush away a resource we could be using.
I will continue to pee outside, but I will think twice about where I go to maximize the outcome (if not the outflow).
