He used <a href=\"https:\/\/moralfoundations.org\/\">Moral Foundations Theory<\/a>, which states that people judge the \u201crightness\u201d or \u201cwrongness\u201d of behaviors along with five different moral concerns or \u201cfoundations.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-primary-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-848031c0a048edfc80853d098bdf3512\">The first is whether an action shows you care; the second is whether an action upholds standards of equality; the third is whether it shows loyalty to the group; the fourth is whether it shows deference to authority, and the last is whether it conforms to impulses and the natural way of doing things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-primary-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-ce9ad0a80063ee698ce168728d07ae6b\">His research was conducted in April 2020 so the entire enterprise was still new to many Americans. Nonetheless, respondents generally associated mask-wearing with \u201ccaring\u201d and \u201cequality\u201d. There were some age differences. Naturally, younger adults felt that wearing a mask and staying at home went against their \u201cnature.\u201d Older adults, on the other hand, felt that all three behaviors show a greater value placed on communal goals and public health over personal comfort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-primary-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-f791469cee6d434d3cd4966822b9fffa\">Understand the basis for belief and subsequent behavior is instrumental to crafting messages that move people.
